It took Michael Zomber decades of experience to write Shogun Iemitsu: War and Romance in 17th Century Tokugawa Japan. In a lengthy iUniverse podcast, the American author talked about this book that is loaded with many historical facts. Shogun Iemitsu provides a detailed overview of the samurai culture that dominated Japanese society for generations. This book includes plenty of details about the overthrowing of the Shoguns who ruled Japan in a ruthless way.
Of course, Zomber has also integrated some elements of romance and excitement into the story line of the book. After all, he is a professional author with a rich imagination. Zomber is very skilled in mixing the blurred lines between reality and fiction. However, Michael Zomber has established himself as an expert on Japanese culture by doing a lot of independent research.
Zomber’s love affair with Japanese culture began in his early adulthood. As a young man straight out of college, he developed a keen interest in antique weapons. At first, Zomber went on a quest to acquire guns and rifles that have been utilized in American conflicts such as the Civil War. He then expanded his horizons by traveling worldwide in search of weapons from international armed conflicts. For decades, he has been collecting swords that were once proudly used by Japan’s elite warriors. Michael Zomber truly appreciates the superb craftsmanship that went into the making of the custom samurai swords. Such unique weapons have a lot more natural appeal than guns and rifles that have been manufactured in bulk for wars or law enforcement.
After publishing Shogun Iemitsu: War and Romance in 17th Century Tokugawa Japan and Jesus and the Samurai: The Shining Religion and the Samurai, Michael Zomber solidified his status as an expert on oriental culture. Additionally, he has also made a documentary called the Soul of the Samurai. This presentation was released via Renascent Films, an independent studio that is owned and operated by Michael and his wife Andrea. Michael Zomber’s books are available for purchase through Amazon, as well as on the Barnes & Noble store.
